Savanna Tobacco and CTSIC sign cooperation agreement

Pacific cigarette company formerly Savanna Tobacco has signed a landmark cooperation agreement with China Tobacco Shaanxi Industrial Cooperation at Zimbabwe Company’s headquarters in Harare.

The agreement has seen the first cooperation in Africa signed by a State owned Chinese Tobacco Company and an African cigarette manufacturer.

In his keynote address Acting Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Zhao Baogang who was also the guest of honour said the launch demonstrates the strong links between Zimbabwe and China.

“The launch of the Acacia Fantasy Brand, the first in a series of planned new cigarette variants into the Zimbabwean and regional market demonstrates the strong links between Zimbabwe and China, and predicted great success for the union in Zimbabwe and beyond,” Mr Baogang said.

Also, in his welcome remarks STC Chairperson Adam Molai said that the agreement had taken them ten years.

“The agreement had been ten years in the making and is a testament to the shared vision and entrepreneurial culture shared by the two companies,” Mr Molai said.

He added that Zimbabwe and Africa at large had opportunities that the Chinese recognised and exhorted the guests to adopt perspectives of seeking opportunities to solve problems in the pursuit of economic and national development.

Chief Global Executive Mr Yves Le Boulenge noted that the agreement was expected to see strong, positive synergies and value creation premised not only on the business opportunities but as well as national economic policies of their respective companies.

“Our own President His Excellence President Emmerson Munangagwa has often spoken of the need for Zimbabwe to rejoin the brotherhood of nations and to use innovation and value addition to enable us to compete effectively on the world stage,” Mr Boulenge said.

CTSIC Executive Mr Bai Gang was also optimistic about the prospects of the agreement.

“In adherence to the idea of win-win cooperation and common development in Africa, Chinese cooperation , CTSIC gets ready to initiate a close relationship with Savanna Tobacco. “We have taken an active response to the plan of China Tobacco going abroad and succeeded in cooperation with overseas tobacco businesses. Savanna Tobacco Company is a case in point, it is a good local tobacco manufacturer,” commented Mr Gang.

An official from the Ministry of Lands , Agriculture , Water ,Climate and Rural Resettlement Mr Kudada applauded CTSIC for partnering with STC and strengthening economic ties between China and Zimbabwe .

Savanna Tobacco which was founded in 2002 by entrepreneur Adam Molai , in the manufacturer of the Pacific brand of cigarettes  which includes Pacific Storm one of the country’s and region’s leading cigarette brands , while CTSIC  based in Xi’an Shaanxi Province in China , as subsidiary of the Chinese National Tobacco Company which owns and regulates all tobacco-related industries in China.
