African leaders and political parties recently joined China in commemorating 100 years since the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Zimbabwean President, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa congratulated CPC for attaining 100 years and appreciated its support to developing nations.

“On behalf of the Central Committee of the Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU PF), the entire membership of the Party and indeed on my own behalf, I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Your Excellency President Jinping on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary,” said president Mnangagwa.

He applauded the Communist Party of China for providing a sustainable alternative development path and governance model to advance the prosperity of diverse communities of the world, in the context of today’s realities

“In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, China’s leadership and its unwavering stance in promoting multi-lateralism in the global health sector is applauded. Resultantly, the developing world and other smaller nations have got access to COVID-19 vaccines,” he said.

Zambian President, Edgar Lungu also conveyed his hearty congratulations to the Communist Party of China and its leader, President Xi Jinping, “About a decade ago, the Communist Party forged relations with my party, the Patriotic Front, and therefore we are delighted to be associated with this great milestone.

“China is now a marvel to the world because of the vision of the Communist Party, which it has faithfully and persistently followed over the century.

“In many ways, Africa, and Zambia in particular, has benefited from this vision. We still remember one of the party’s founders, Mao Zedong (Chairman Mao), because of the strong bonds he built with Africa. In Zambia, when we talk about Chairman Mao, we always think of the Tazara railway, which he was instrumental in building, and which still stands as an engineering feat decades after it was built,” expressed President Lungu.

ANC and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said this was indeed a joyous occasion for the people not only of China, but of the world.

“We applaud the CPC’s internationalist policies, which over the course of many decades have promoted multinationalism, understanding and peace. As Africans, we deeply appreciate the progressive policies that China has pursued in supporting the development of our continent Africa and the aspirations of our people.

“We do this convinced and committed that indeed China has been a good friend and loyal friend to many of us on the African continent,” said president Ramaphosa.

He also thanked the Government and people of China for the generous provision of vaccines, personal protective equipment and other vital medical supplies for Africa’s response to COVID-19.

In a letter to the Chinese leader, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari said  connections between the two nations have witnessed an increasingly enhanced political trust, closer mutually beneficial economic and trade relations and cumulatively dynamic people to people exchange between Nigeria and China.

He also applauded China for its social development policy, “Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the CPC, with General Secretary Xi Jinping at the core, has led the Chinese people to realise remarkable economic and social progress. China has achieved the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society, and has already embarked on a new journey to fully build a modern socialist country, which is the second centenary goal.

The China Communist Party was established on 1 July 1921.
